On Wednesday, May 20th, the day before Ascension Day, at 8 p.m. we would like to welcome you on board of the beautiful sailing ship the Willem-Jacob in Harlingen. This sailing ship was built in 1889 and has been completely restored while retaining its authenticity. After an introduction by the crew and Harmen, we hoist the sails to our night destination in the middle of the Wadden Sea. Along the way, Harmen and Remco will talk about the best way to take landscape photos. The sun sets at 9.35 p.m. and we hope we can shoot some nice pictures during that time. We are sailing to a nice place to let the ship run dry where we hopefully will capture the stars at night.
It is a dark night without a moon. Of course you can enjoy a (alcoholic) drink in the hold (own account). Or sleep in the sleeping area. But make sure to set the alarm because at 5.30 am the sun rises. We will be able to leave the ship to photograph sunrise. For this, use can be made of a few NiSi filters sets and different Tamron lenses can be tested.
In the meantime, our hostess prepares a nice breakfast with warm sandwiches and a boiled egg. As soon as we are loose, we’ll set sail across the beautiful Wadden Sea. Maybe we see seals or spot the Northern Stern, which has its migration period in May. For this, we can use the binoculars provided by Camerashop Foto Sipkes. There is much to see and photograph while sailing. Finally we arrive in Harlingen again at around 11 a.m.
Harmen Piekema and Remco Stunnenberg will be available during the entire trip for tips and advice. A dSLR camera or a system camera is required for this workshop. Because we will do a lot of photography, and you probably won’t get much sleep, it is recommended to bring muesli bars or something similar for some extra energy.
